They loved history and old stories. They wanted to save these tales for the future. To do this, they asked friends to tell them stories. They also read many old books to find them.

They first published their book in 1812. It was called Children's and Household Tales.

The first book had 86 stories. They kept adding more tales over many years. By 1857, they had 210 tales in their collection. Some stories changed as they added new ones. For example, they changed a wicked mother into a stepmother. They did this to make the tales better for children.

Many artists have made beautiful pictures for these stories.
