The Tisza is the most important river here. Many towns have warm medicinal baths. People visit places like Debrecen or Gyula to swim. There are also many fun festivals. You can go to a flower show or a goulash festival.

This land has a long history. Long ago, many groups of people moved through it. These were called nomads. They lived in the open land. Many famous writers and scientists were born here too. One scientist, János Irinyi, invented the noiseless match. The plain is part of a much larger area called the Pannonian Plain. This larger area reaches into Serbia, Croatia, Slovakia, Ukraine, and Romania.
