Graham's journey into entertainment started with many small jobs. As a young man, he worked as a news runner for the ABC. He also worked in a record library for a radio station called 3UZ. His big break in radio came when he worked with Clifford Whitta. Whitta was a very popular radio personality who became a mentor to Graham. He acted like a father figure and taught Graham how to truly use the radio. This training helped prepare him for his future career on the screen.

Kennedy moved from radio to television in the late 1950s. His first TV appearance was in March 1957 on a Red Cross telethon. Soon after, he began hosting a famous show called "In Melbourne Tonight," or IMT. The show started on May 6, 1957, and it became very popular. He would perform funny sketches and introduce talented artists to the audience. He even read advertisements live on the air. The show was a huge part of life for many people in Melbourne.

Even though he was a superstar, Graham often felt very nervous. He once said he was "terrified for forty years" during his career. He felt this way almost every time he had to perform. He worked very hard to overcome those fears and do a great job. He often worked with his close friend and colleague, Bert Newton. Together, they performed on shows like "In Melbourne Tonight" and "The Graham Kennedy Show." Their teamwork helped make their programs a big success.

Graham Kennedy's life changed how people watched television in Australia. He helped make variety shows a major part of the culture. He was even an officer of the Order of Australia for his work. He lived in many places, including Melbourne and Frankston. Even after he passed away in 2005, people still remembered his talent. A plaque was even placed on his first childhood home in Balaclava. His legacy lives on through the many awards he won and the shows he hosted.
