He lived a long time ago. He was a very talented poet and a writer of plays. He wrote many funny stories called comedies. He also wrote serious plays called tragedies.

Naevius was a soldier in the First Punic War. This war made him very proud of Rome. He made a new kind of play. These were called fabula praetexta. These plays were about Roman heroes and history. He also wrote a long poem called Bellum Punicum. This poem told the story of the war. It mixed real history with old myths.

Naevius used his plays to make jokes about powerful people. This made some leaders very angry. Because of this, he was sent to prison. Later, he was sent away from Rome to a place called Utica. He died there. Even though most of his work is lost, we know he was important. He helped make the Latin language a great tool for art. He was a true spirit of the Roman people.
