Falcone used a smart new way to find criminals. He followed the money trail. He looked at bank records to see where money went. This helped him find links to heroin deals. He studied how money moved through banks in Palermo. He did not have computers to help him. He wrote down all the bank details by hand. This hard work helped him build very strong cases.

He was born in 1939 to a middle-class family. His father was Arturo Falcone. His mother was Luisa Bentivegna. He had two older sisters named Anna and Maria. He studied law at the University of Palermo. He became a judge in 1964. He also had a close friend named Paolo Borsellino. They played soccer together when they were young boys.

Falcone joined a special group called the Antimafia Pool. This was a team of judges who worked together. They shared information to keep everyone safe. This group helped lead the Maxi Trial from 1986 to 1987. During this trial, 338 people were found guilty. Many of them were important Mafia bosses. A man named Tommaso Buscetta helped the judges. He told them that the Mafia had a single group of leaders. This was called the Buscetta theorem.

Falcone's work had a very sad end. On May 23, 1992, the Mafia killed him. They used a large bomb on a road near Capaci.
