He was born in 1548 in a place called Nola. Bruno was many things at once. He was a philosopher and a poet. He also studied the stars and the secrets of memory. Some people even called him an alchemist. He spent much of his life traveling to different cities to share his ideas.

Bruno had some very big ideas about the universe. He looked at the stars and saw something new. He thought that stars were actually distant suns. He believed these suns had their own planets circling them. This idea is called cosmic pluralism. He also thought the universe was infinite. This means it has no end and no center at all. He believed life might exist on those other worlds too.

His life was not always easy because of his many beliefs. Bruno was a priest in the Dominican Order. He was ordained in 1572 when he was 24 years old. However, he often had trouble with religious leaders. He liked to read books that were not allowed. He also had ideas about the soul that were not part of the church. He traveled to places like Venice, Geneva, and Paris. He even gave lectures to a king in France.

Because of his views, Bruno faced a very hard trial. The Roman Inquisition held a trial to judge his ideas. Some historians say he was judged for his science. Others think he was judged for his religious views. He was asked to change his mind many times. On December 21, 1599, he said he did not want to repent. He stayed true to his thoughts even when it was dangerous.
