It has two dark lines on its back. These lines run from behind its head to its wings. This bug has wings, but it cannot fly well. It can only glide if it is disturbed.

These bugs live in many places. They live on every continent except Antarctica. They like warm places. Because of this, they stay near human buildings in cold areas. They love to eat many things. They like meat, sugar, and fats. If food is hard to find, they may eat soap or glue.

German cockroaches grow very fast. They can become adults in 50 to 60 days. Females carry a special egg case called an ootheca. This case protects the eggs. The case starts clear. It turns white, then pink, and finally dark red-brown.

Most eggs hatch 24 hours after the case falls off the female. The babies are called nymphs. They are very good at hiding in tiny cracks. This makes them hard to stop.
