Gerard Damiano was a famous American director of adult films.

He was a key figure during a time called the Golden Age of Porn. This era of filmmaking lasted from 1969 until 1984. Damiano directed more than 50 adult films during his long career. He is known for making movies that helped start a modern industry. His work changed how adult entertainment was made and shared. Many people remember him for his unique style and many projects.

Damiano's life began in the Bronx, New York City.

He was born into an Italian American Catholic family. As a young boy, he worked as a shoeshine boy in Times Square. He also worked in an automat to earn money. When he was 17, he joined the United States Navy. He served in the Navy for four years. Later, he studied X-ray technology and worked at Jamaica Hospital in Queens.

His path to filmmaking started in an unexpected way.

Damiano opened a hairdressing salon with a friend in New York City. While working there, he heard many stories from his customers. This helped him think that films for couples could be successful. He began helping on sets for low-budget horror films. Eventually, he worked as a crew member on many New York films. This experience helped him learn the craft of directing.

Damiano directed several movies that were very successful at the box office.

His 1972 film, Deep Throat, starred Linda Lovelace and Harry Reems. This film was so popular it stayed on the big lists for two years. In 1973, his film The Devil in Miss Jones earned $7.7 million. This made it one of the top ten highest-grossing movies of that year. It even ranked near famous films like the James Bond movie, Live and Let Die. In 1975, some people even ran ads suggesting his films deserved Academy Award nominations.

Damiano often used different names when he worked on his films.

He sometimes used the names Albert Gork or Jerry Gerard. He even used the name D. Furred for some projects. He also liked to appear in his own movies in small roles. Damiano passed away in 2008 at the age of 80. He died in a hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. In 2008, he received an XBIZ Award for his lifetime of work in movie production.
