He is best known for writing about the lives of regular people. His poems often described the working class and middle-class life in small towns. He used a style called heroic couplets to tell his stories. This means his lines often came in rhyming pairs. Many people think his work is very honest. He did not try to make life look better than it really was. This made his writing feel very real to his readers.

Before he became a famous writer, Crabbe worked in many different jobs. At age 14, he was an apprentice to a farmer and an apothecary. An apothecary is a person who prepares and sells medicines. He spent a lot of time doing farm work instead of learning medicine. Later, he worked for a surgeon named John Page in Woodbridge.

To learn about the human body, Crabbe studied anatomy by dissecting dogs. He even tried to practice medicine in London. However, he struggled a lot with money during this time. He even had to pawn his medical tools to pay his debts.

Crabbe's life changed when he met a powerful man named Edmund Burke.

This was a very important job at Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire.

His famous poem, "The Village," was published in May 1783. This poem made him very popular with the public. He also wrote other books like "The Borough" in 1810 and "Tales" in 1812.

He lived a long life and died on February 3, 1832. His work helped him move from being a struggling doctor to a respected writer.
