Generation Alpha is a group of people born in the 21st century.

They follow Generation Z and come before a group called Generation Beta. This group is very special because they are the first to live entirely in the third millennium. Most of these children are the children of Millennials. They are growing up in a world that looks very different from the past. They have never known a world without smartphones or social media.

Life for this generation involves a lot of digital tools. Many children use portable technology to find entertainment. They often use social networks and streaming services to watch shows. Traditional television is becoming less popular with these young people. Technology is also changing how they learn in classrooms. This shift affects how they experience early learning compared to older groups. Some studies suggest that more children face health issues like obesity or allergies. These issues are sometimes linked to how much time is spent looking at screens.

Researchers use different names to describe this group. The name "Generation Alpha" came from a 2008 survey. A researcher named Mark McCrindle is credited with choosing this name. He used the first letter of the Greek alphabet. He wanted to show that this was a new start. Some people also call them "Generation AI" because of artificial intelligence. Others use the name "iPad kids" because of how they use tablets. During the pandemic, some people even suggested the name "Coronials."

There are many different ideas about when this generation began. There is no single agreement on their birth years. McCrindle Research says they were born between 2010 and 2024. However, the psychologist Jean Twenge says they were born from 2013 to 2029. The Annie E. Casey Foundation uses the years 2013 to 2025. The Cambridge Dictionary says they were born during the 2010s and 2020s. People born right on the edge of two groups are sometimes called "Zalphas." This shows how hard it is to draw exact lines between groups.

This is a massive group of people. By 2024, Generation Alpha had more than 2 billion members worldwide. Most of these people live in Africa and Asia. In many places, birth rates are actually falling. This happens because of better education and more jobs for adults. In India, the number of these children has been slowly decreasing. In Japan, the government even made preschool free to help families. These changes show how the world is moving toward a new way of living.
