This group started in 1999. At that time, many countries had big money problems. Leaders wanted a way to keep the world economy stable. They wanted more countries to have a voice.

Today, the G20 is very powerful. Its members make up a large part of the world. They represent about 56% of all people. They also make up 75% of world trade.

Every year, leaders meet for a big summit. They talk about important things. They discuss how to help the planet. They also talk about climate change. They look for ways to help people grow.

New members can join the group. The African Union joined in 2023. This was the first new member since the group began.

Some people criticize the group. They say it does not have enough power to enforce rules. Others say it does not have enough members. Still, the G20 remains a key place for world leaders to work together.
