The caves have many parts. You can find large chambers and narrow tunnels. There are also natural bridges. Many stalactites and stalagmites grow there. Stalactites hang from the ceiling. Stalagmites grow from the ground.

Inside, the air is very wet. This is called high humidity. Water turns into drops on the walls. The temperature stays the same. It is always between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius. These conditions help rare plants and animals live there.

People have explored these caves for a long time. In 1969, a group from Exeter University went inside. They found large shafts. Shafts are deep, vertical holes. They also found two sumps. A sump is a part of a cave filled with water. The cave system ends at a big pile of rocks. This pile is called a choke. Since 2016, the cave has been closed. It is not safe for visitors to go inside anymore.
