A frequency mixer is a special circuit.

It takes two signals as inputs. It then makes new signals as outputs. These new signals have different speeds, or frequencies. One output is the sum of the two inputs. The other is the difference. This helps move signals to a new range. We call this way of moving signals heterodyning. This is very helpful for radio tools. It helps us send and receive messages.

There are different kinds of mixers. Passive mixers use parts called diodes. These mixers do not make the signal stronger. The output power is always lower than the input power. Active mixers use parts like transistors to help. A transistor is a device that can make signals stronger. These mixers can increase the power of the signal. They also help keep the signal separate from noise.

Some mixers are called double balanced mixers. These are more complex. They use special circuits to block the original input signals. This way, only the new product signal comes out.
