Frederic Bartlett was a famous British psychologist. He studied how the mind works.

He was the first professor of experimental psychology at Cambridge University. This means he used tests to study the mind. Bartlett wanted to know how people remember things. He also studied how we think and how we act in groups.

One of his most famous studies was called "War of the Ghosts."

He asked people to read a Native American story. Then, he asked them to tell the story back later. He found that people did not remember it perfectly. Instead, they changed parts of the story. They used things they already knew to fill in the gaps. For example, some people called a canoe a "boat."

This showed that memory is reconstructive. This means our minds rebuild memories using our own knowledge. This idea is part of his schema theory. A schema is a way to organize what we know.

Bartlett also helped with work during World War II. He studied how people use their bodies to do skills. He was even knighted for his work.
