Ulric Neisser was a famous scientist. He studied how people think and feel. Many people call him the "father of cognitive psychology." This is the study of how the mind works.

Neisser was born in Germany in 1928. His family moved to the United States in 1933. As a boy, he loved baseball. This sport helped him think about the mind. He later studied at Harvard and Cornell.

Neisser did big studies on memory. He found that memory is not like a photo. A photo shows a single moment. Instead, the brain builds memories. He called this an active process of construction. This means our minds put pieces together to make a memory.

Sometimes, these memories can have errors. Neisser studied how people remembered the Challenger space shuttle explosion. He found that many people were wrong about the details. Even when people felt sure, their memories were not perfect. He also studied how big earthquakes affect what we remember. Neisser died in 2012. His work changed how we understand the human mind.
