Experts look for clues to help make legal decisions. They study things like DNA and fingerprints. They also look at blood and tools like guns. Some work in labs. Others go to the scene of a crime. Some even study bank data to find financial crimes.

In the past, people did not have these tools. They often used force to get answers. In China, a man named Song Ci wrote a book in 1248. He used insects to help solve a case. He saw that flies gathered on a specific tool used in a crime. This helped find the truth.

Later, doctors began to study how bodies change. This helped people find the cause of death. In 1773, Carl Wilhelm Scheele found a way to test for arsenic. Arsenic is a type of poison. Today, experts use a way called chromatography. This helps them separate parts of a mixture. They can use it to find drugs or liquids.

Forensic scientists can also help with computer crimes. They look at data after a big digital breach.
