Flatbreads can be very thin or a few centimeters thick. This makes them easy to eat without slicing. You can cook them in many ways. You can bake them in an oven or on a hot pan. Some people fry them in oil or grill them over coals.

Flatbread is a very old food. Scientists found bread crumbs in Jordan from 12,400 BC. These old breads used wild barley and wheat. In the Middle East, people use a clay oven called a tandir. They stick the dough to the hot walls to bake it. Sharing fresh tandir bread is even a symbol of young love in local stories.
