Fiddler rays are a type of fish. They are also called banjo rays. They live near Australia. You can find them in shallow bays. They like sandy areas and seagrass beds.

These fish have very flat fins. Their fins are short and round. They have thin tails. They also have two fins on their backs. Their snouts are see-through. They have a special part near their nose. This part is a nasal curtain. It reaches all the way to their mouth.

Fiddler rays eat things from the sea floor. They eat worms, crabs, and shellfish. They use their jaws to crush their food. The eastern fiddler ray even eats from fish traps.

There are two main kinds of these rays. The southern fiddler ray can grow to 180 cm. The eastern fiddler ray grows to 120 cm. The southern ray has golden egg capsules. Each capsule has three tiny babies inside. They give birth to four to six young at a time. These rays are harmless. Divers can swim close to them.
