These bacteria break down cellulose. Cellulose is a tough part of plants. This helps animals get food from plants. Some bacteria in this group are called Fibrobacter. One type is Fibrobacter succinogenes. Another is Fibrobacter intestinalis. Scientists have studied them for a long time. They want to know how microbes break down plant fiber.

Other types of these bacteria live in bugs. They are found in termites and some cockroaches. In termites, they help break down wood. Scientists found these bacteria by studying genes. This shows they live in many places.

Some scientists think these bacteria are part of a larger group. They look at proteins to find links. Proteins are tiny parts inside cells. They found that Fibrobacterota is close to other groups. They might all belong to one big group called the FCB superphylum. This group shares a common ancestor from a long time ago.
