Fatima bint Musa was a very important person in the Twelver Shia faith. She was born around the year 790 in the city of Medina. Her father was Musa al-Kazim, who was the seventh Imam. She also had a brother named Ali al-Rida. He was the eighth Imam in the same faith. Many people look up to her today for her deep religious learning.

Fatima's life changed when her father died in the year 799. He died while he was in prison. After that, many followers accepted her brother Ali al-Rida as their leader. In the year 816, Fatima decided to go on a long journey. She wanted to visit her brother in a place called Merv. She traveled through a town called Saveh during her trip.

While she was traveling, Fatima became very ill. Some stories say she was sick for seventeen days. She asked to be taken to the nearby town of Qom. A man named Musa ibn Khazraj al-Ash'ari helped her during her final days. Fatima died in Qom in either 816 or 817. Because of her holy life, she is given the title al-Ma'suma.

Many followers believe Fatima was a very pure person. They call her the embodiment of feminine virtues. Some people believe she can perform miracles, like healing sick people. Because of these beliefs, many people take a special journey to visit her. They travel to her shrine in the city of Qom. This shrine has been built up by many different groups over many centuries.

Many powerful leaders helped make the shrine a grand place. Groups like the Buyids and the Seljuks helped it grow. Later, the Safavid and Qajar rulers also worked on the complex. In 1519, a woman named Shah Bigum helped develop the shrine. The city of Qom became a very famous place for religious learning. It remains an important center for the Shia faith even today.
