Ezana was a ruler of the Kingdom of Aksum. He became king when he was still a child. His mother, Sofya, helped him rule until he grew up.

Ezana was a very important leader. He was the first king of Aksum to follow Christianity. A teacher named Frumentius helped him learn this faith. Frumentius later became the head of the Ethiopian Church. Ezana also used the name Ethiopia for his land.

Ezana was a busy king. He led military campaigns to grow his power. He also built tall stone pillars called stelae.

He made many coins for his people to use. Some coins had a cross on them. Other coins had a disc and a crescent. These coins showed his change in faith. Some of his coins were even found far away in India. This shows that his land traded with many places. One motto on his coins said, "May this please the country." This shows he cared about what his people wanted.

Today, many churches call Ezana a saint. He is remembered for the big changes he made.
