Amanitore was a queen of the Kingdom of Kush. She ruled in the middle of the 1st century AD. She ruled with her son, Natakamani. They ruled together from a place called Meroë.

This was a very prosperous time for her people. This means it was a time of wealth and success. Amanitore and Natakamani were shown together on many monuments. Older scholars thought they were husband and wife. Now, most people think she was his mother.

Amanitore held the title of kandake. This means she was a queen mother. She and her son had equal power. They both wore the clothes of kings in art. Amanitore helped build many large things. She helped fix temples for the god Amun. These temples were in Meroë and Napata. The Romans had destroyed the temple at Napata. She also helped build temples at Naqa and Amara. Her people also built reservoirs to hold water.

Amanitore is buried in a tomb at Meroë. Her tomb is shaped like a pyramid. Her royal palace was at Gebel Barkal. This site is now a UNESCO heritage site.
