Evelyn Glennie is a famous percussionist from Scotland. A percussionist is a musician who plays instruments like drums.

Evelyn has been profoundly deaf since she was eight years old. This means she has very little hearing in her ears. But deafness does not stop her from making music. She has found a new way to listen. Her teacher, Ron Forbes, taught her to feel sound. She feels the beat in different parts of her body. For example, she feels high drums from her waist up. She feels low drums from her waist down.

To help her feel the music, Evelyn often plays barefoot. This lets her feel vibrations through the floor. She plays many instruments. She even plays the Great Highland Bagpipes. She has a huge collection of over 3,500 instruments.

Evelyn has won many big awards. She won a Grammy Award for her music. She also won the Polar Music Prize in 2015. She even led one thousand drummers at the 2012 Olympic Games. Evelyn shows the world that there are many ways to hear.
