It is used when a person has a very hard sickness. This sickness may be incurable, which means it cannot be fixed.

There are different ways this happens. Voluntary euthanasia is when a person asks for help to die. This is legal in many countries like Belgium and Canada. Some people also use assisted suicide. This is when a doctor helps a person bring about their own death.

Non-voluntary euthanasia happens when a person cannot ask for help. This might be because they are in a coma. In some places, this is legal under strict rules.

Involuntary euthanasia is when someone is killed against their will. This is illegal in all countries. It is seen as murder.

There are also two ways to do this. Active euthanasia uses things like medicine to end life. Passive euthanasia means stopping the treatments that keep someone alive. People have studied these ideas for a long time. It is a big topic with many different views.
