Most congers are grey or black. Their bellies are white. They have a row of small white spots. These spots go along their side.

Congers like to hide in rocky holes. They are nocturnal, which means they hunt at night. They eat fish and crabs. They also eat dead fish.

When eels grow up, their bodies change. Their teeth fall out. Their bones also get smaller. This happens so they can make babies. Females grow much larger than males. They lay millions of eggs. After they lay eggs, the eels die. The tiny babies swim to shallow water. They grow up and start the cycle again.
