Esau had a twin brother named Jacob. One day, Esau was very hungry after hunting. He traded his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of red lentil stew. A birthright is a special right given to the firstborn son. This gave Jacob authority over the family. Later, Jacob used a trick to get a blessing from their father. This made Esau very angry.

Esau and Jacob had a hard relationship for a long time. However, they eventually met again.

Esau showed forgiveness to his brother. Esau is also known as the father of the Edomites. This was a group of people who lived in a place called Mount Seir. Many stories about Esau are found in the Hebrew Bible and the Quran. Some traditions say he was a favorite of his father, Isaac.
