Erik Prince is a businessman from the United States.

He was born on June 6, 1969, in Holland, Michigan. His father, Edgar Prince, was an engineer and a businessman. As a young boy, Erik traveled the world with his father. They visited places like Berlin and the battlefields of Normandy. These trips left a big impression on him. He later attended the United States Naval Academy for three semesters. He eventually earned a degree in economics from Hillsdale College in 1992. Before his business career, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He completed difficult SEAL training in 1993. He even served with SEAL Team 8 in places like Haiti and the Balkans.

In 1997, Prince started a company called Blackwater Worldwide. He used his own money to start the business. He set up a training school in a place called the Great Dismal Swamp. The name Blackwater comes from the dark color of the water there. Prince said the Rwandan genocide in 1994 made him want to act. His company provided security for the government. From 1997 to 2010, Blackwater received $2 billion in government contracts. The company grew to be very large. It provided nearly 987 guards for embassies and bases around the world. Prince even built a shooting range near the CIA headquarters in Virginia.

However, the company faced many hard times and much criticism. In September 2007, a sad event happened in Baghdad, Iraq. This happened in a place called Nisour Square. Blackwater employees opened fire in a crowded area. This event killed 17 Iraqi civilians and hurt 20 more. Because of this, there were many legal battles in court. In 2014, three guards were convicted of manslaughter charges. Prince said the criticism against him was often about politics. He believed he was helping the CIA with very risky missions. In 2010, the company was sold to a group of investors.

After leaving Blackwater, Prince worked in many different countries. In 2010, he moved to Abu Dhabi. He helped the United Arab Emirates build a group of 800 foreign troops. He also worked on a project to train 2,000 Somalis to stop pirates. Later, he was invited to Moscow, Russia. There, he worked with a special forces unit called Alpha Group. Prince also became involved in business in Africa. He used a firm called Frontier Resource Group to invest in oil and minerals. He worked in places like Guinea and South Sudan. He even sold helicopters and aircraft services to the government in South Sudan.

Prince also spent time working in Asia. He was the chairman of the Frontier Services Group until 2021. This company is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. It has support from the Chinese government through the CITIC Group. His company helped mining and construction firms in Africa. In 2017, his group bought part of a security training school in Beijing. This school trains people for high-risk jobs and counterterrorism. Prince has always stayed busy with many different types of work. He continues to be a person of interest in many global business circles. His life shows how private companies can play a role in world events.
