In Buddhism, many people talk about enlightenment. This word helps explain a deep kind of wisdom. It can also mean finding freedom. Some people use the word "bodhi" to mean this. Bodhi comes from a word that means to wake up. It is like waking up from a dream.

Many different words describe this state. In Japan, people use the word "satori." This means a special kind of insight. In China, they use the word "wu." These words all point to a deep understanding. Some thinkers say enlightenment is a path of realization. It is not just a single moment.

There are different ways to see this goal. Some people seek to become an "arhat." These people follow the Buddha's teachings to find peace. Others seek to become a "Buddha." A Buddha reaches peace through their own hard work. They then teach others how to find it too.

Gautama Buddha is a famous example. He sat in the jungle to find truth. He learned about his past lives. He also learned about how karma works. This helped him reach a state called Nirvana. Nirvana is when disturbing emotions are blown out. This brings a person true calm.
