Elmore James was a famous blues singer and guitar player. He was born in Mississippi in 1918. He was known for his loud, powerful music. People called him the "King of the Slide Guitar." This was because of his special way of playing.

He started making music when he was only twelve. He used a diddley bow. This was a simple tool with one string. He tied it to a wall to play it. Later, he played the electric guitar. He used loud speakers to make it sound big.

James served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he became a star. He recorded many hits. One very famous song was "Dust My Broom." He also played with a band called the Broomdusters.

His music changed the world of rock and roll. Many great players learned from him. Even the Beatles were fans of his style. In 1992, he joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is still remembered as a music hero today.
