Most circuits use parts like resistors or transistors. A transistor is an active part. It helps the circuit do many jobs. Circuits can move data or do math. They can even make a signal bigger.

Today, many parts sit on a flat board. This is called a printed circuit board, or PCB. Parts are often joined to the board with solder. Some circuits are very tiny. They are made on a single chip. We call these integrated circuits.

There are different kinds of circuits. Analog circuits use signals that change smoothly. Digital circuits use signals that take on specific values. They often use binary. This means they use two values to show data. One value is a '1' and the other is a '0'. Digital circuits are in phones and computers. Some circuits use both types. We call these mixed-signal circuits.
