His work often explored very personal and bold themes. He wanted to show the truth of how people look and feel.

Schiele learned how to create his art through many different steps. As a child, he spent many hours drawing trains.

Later, he studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna. He even tried making small sculptures out of clay and plaster. He learned to use lines to create a sense of movement. His style eventually moved away from his teachers to become his own. He began to paint landscapes, still lifes, and even tributes to other artists.

His journey as an artist began in the late 1800s. He was born on June 12, 1890, in Tulln, Austria.

His father was a station master for the Austrian Federal Railways. When Schiele was 14, his father died, and the family lost much of their money. This made it hard for him to pay for his art studies. He eventually moved to Vienna to study more seriously. In 1906, he applied to a famous school in the city. This was a big step toward his professional career.

Many important people helped shape his life and career. The famous painter Gustav Klimt became a mentor to him.

Klimt bought Schiele's drawings and introduced him to people who liked art. In 1911, Schiele met a woman named Wally Neuzil.

She lived with him and was a model for his paintings. Later, he married a woman named Edith Harms in 1915.

During World War I, Schiele served in the army. He worked as a clerk in a camp near Mühlingen. This job allowed him to keep drawing people in a studio.

Schiele's life connects to the big changes in the art world. He was part of a group called the Neukunstgruppe, or New Art Group.

This group was made of students who wanted to try new things. His work is often studied alongside other famous artists like Vincent van Gogh.

Even when he faced hard times, like being in a jail cell, he kept creating.
