Families would watch acrobats, jugglers, or magicians. They also saw popular comedians and singing stars. Sometimes a puppet like Topo Gigio would appear on stage. Even famous athletes or theater stars were part of the show. Sullivan often asked musical acts to perform their songs live. He did not want them to just lip-sync to a recording. This made the performances feel very real for the viewers.
