DJ Arafat was a highly influential Ivorian disc jockey and singer.

He was a central figure in the Coupé-Décalé music genre. This style emerged in the Ivory Coast during the early 2000s. It appeared during a period of civil war in the country. At that time, many young people felt low in spirit. They needed music that was uplifting and provided hope. Coupé-Décalé became a way to feel better about life. The genre is defined by fast percussion and deep bass. It also uses hip-hop-style vocals to create its unique sound.

To understand the music, one must look at its name and roots. The term "coupé-décalé" comes from a traditional dance. In Ivorian slang, the phrase means "to cheat someone and run away." This is often called "cut and run" in English. The music is built to be energetic and danceable. It is closely linked to a flashy, well-dressed lifestyle. Arafat became a symbol of this vibrant way of living. He helped move the genre from local clubs to the mainstream. His work helped Coupé-Décalé reach a massive global audience.

His stage name, Arafat, was given to him by Lebanese friends. They called him this because they viewed him as "hardcore."

Throughout his fifteen-year career, Arafat released 11 music albums. He was not the creator of Coupé-Décalé, but he was its most famous promoter. He helped the genre spread through western and central Africa. His influence even reached Europe and the United States. This happened after sports personalities began to popularize the dance steps. His hits include songs like "Dosabado," "Kpangor," and "Zoropoto." He also released "Enfant Beni" and "202." In May 2019, he released a song called "Moto Moto."
