By blending North African traditions with Western musical styles, he has become one of the most famous African performers globally. Khaled is the bestselling Arabic-language singer in history, having sold over 80.5 million albums worldwide. His massive commercial success includes ten diamond, platinum, and gold certifications. This achievement has earned him a Guinness World Record as the best-selling artist of raï music.

Khaled’s musical style is defined by a complex fusion of diverse genres. He takes the traditional sounds of Algeria and integrates them with Western rhythms. Specifically, he incorporates elements of soul, rock, and reggae into his compositions. This process creates a distinctive voice that transcends geopolitical boundaries. By mixing these styles, he acts as a musical bridge between different cultures. His work allows traditional Algerian sounds to reach audiences in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

His career progressed through several distinct stages and name changes. In his early teens, he began recording under the name Cheb Khaled. In Arabic, "Cheb" is a common title meaning "Young." This name reflected his status as a rising star in the raï scene. In 1992, he transitioned to performing simply as Khaled. This change coincided with the release of his self-titled album, produced by Don Was. This era marked his shift from a regional star to an international superstar.

Khaled’s rise to fame was supported by key figures and official events. Lieutenant-Colonel Hosni Snoussi, director of the Office Riadh el Feth, played a vital role in his early career. Snoussi helped Khaled perform at the Festival de la Jeunesse in Algiers in July 1985. That same year, Khaled was crowned the king of raï during an official festival in Oran. Snoussi also helped organize the first raï festival in France at Bobigny in 1986. This move helped export the genre from Algeria to a much larger European audience.

The impact of his music is visible in specific global successes and statistics. His 1993 hit "Didi" became a massive success across several continents. It reached the top charts in France, Belgium, and Spain, and was popular in India and Pakistan. The song even appeared in Bollywood films such as *Shreeman Aashiq*, *Airlift*, and *Highway*. Later, his 2012 album *C’est la vie* demonstrated his continued global reach. That album sold over 4 million copies worldwide, including 1.8 million copies in the Middle East and North Africa. It also reached number 5 on the SNEP, the official French Albums Chart.

Khaled has also used his platform for humanitarian efforts and major global events. In 2020, he co-wrote the charity single "Elle S'appelle Beyrouth" to support victims of the Port of Beirut explosion. This collaboration with DJ Rodge reached number one on the Lebanese music charts for six weeks. Additionally, he contributed to the 2022 FIFA World Cup through the song "C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N.S." His career has also faced legal complexities, such as a 2015 plagiarism charge regarding the song "Didi." However, the Court of Cassation removed these charges in 2016 after a 1982 audio tape proved his prior work.

Beyond individual songs, Khaled’s work connects to broader cultural and social systems. He is often described as an unofficial ambassador for Algeria's Arab minority. His music serves as a tool for cultural diplomacy, moving between the traditions of North Africa and the modern sounds of the West. He has appeared on major international stages, such as *The Tonight Show* in the United States and the Grammy Jam in Los Angeles. Through these performances, he continues to demonstrate how music can unite different parts of the world.
