In 1995, he and Michel Mayor made a big discovery. They found 51 Pegasi b. This was the first exoplanet found near a star like our Sun. An exoplanet is a planet that orbits a star outside our solar system.

They found this planet using a special tool. This tool measures radial velocity. This is a way to see how a star moves. The planet's pull makes the star wobble a little bit. This wobble tells scientists a planet is there. For this work, they won the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics. This is one of the highest honors in science.

Now, Queloz looks for worlds like Earth. He wants to know if life can exist there. He helps lead the CHEOPS mission. This is a space telescope that measures the size of planets. He also leads a center that studies how life begins. He hopes to find signs of life in the deep reaches of space.
