Some people follow rules to be good.

They do what is right because it is their duty. They do not just look at what happens next. This idea is called deontology.

One thinker was Immanuel Kant. He said our reasons matter most. It is not just about the results. It is about why we act.

Other people look to God for rules. They believe God tells us what is right. They do these things because God said so.

Some people have many different duties. They might have a duty to tell the truth. They also have a duty to help others.

Sometimes these rules can clash. This can make a hard choice. People still wonder about the best way to act.
