He was born in 1960 in Pennsylvania. As a child, he played baseball and football. He also had asthma and bad allergies. His family joined Scientology in 1971. They moved to England for a time. There, he became a young professional auditor. An auditor is someone who helps people using Scientology.

As a teenager, he joined the Sea Org. This is a management group for the church. He worked many jobs, like delivering mail and taking photos. He later worked closely with the founder, L. Ron Hubbard. After Hubbard died in 1986, Miscavige became the top leader.

Many people have made claims about his work. Some say he was unkind to staff. Others say he was involved in illegal acts. He has faced many lawsuits and investigations. Miscavige and the church deny these claims. They say the statements are not true.
