Many hills have granite tops called tors. These tors look like large, rounded boulders. High Willhays is the highest point on the moor.

It is often a very wet place. It rains much more here than in nearby low lands. This rain stays in thick layers of peat. Peat is decaying plant matter. This makes deep, wet bogs. Some bogs are covered in bright green moss. Locals call them "quakers" because they shift under your feet.
