Daniel David Palmer was born in Canada in 1845. He later moved to the United States. He worked as a teacher and a beekeeper.

Palmer is best known for creating chiropractic. This is a way to help the body without drugs. He believed the body has its own power to heal. He thought this power travels through the nervous system. The nervous system is the body's way of sending messages.

Palmer believed that illness happens when messages cannot flow well. He said this happens because of a spinal misalignment. He used the word subluxation for this. He thought moving the spine could fix the flow. He said this would help the body heal itself.

In 1895, he met a man named Harvey Lillard. Palmer claimed he helped Lillard's hearing by moving his back. This idea helped start his new field. Palmer also started a school in Iowa. His son, B.J. Palmer, helped him.

Palmer had many different beliefs. He was a spiritualist. He said he received his ideas from the other world. He also worked as a magnetic healer. He died in 1913 in California.
