Ramaphosa's journey began with a fight for fairness. Long ago, South Africa had a system called apartheid that was very unfair to many people. Ramaphosa was a leader for people who worked in the mines. In 1982, he helped start the National Union of Mineworkers. This group grew from 6,000 members to 300,000 members by 1992.

After the big changes in the country, Ramaphosa took a break from politics. In 1996, he resigned from his government jobs to enter the world of business. He became very successful at making money through many different companies. He founded a group called the Shanduka Group to invest in many areas.
