This magic trick is very old. Roman performers did it two thousand years ago. Some art from Ancient Egypt also shows people using bowls for games.

In a typical show, a magician uses three cups and three balls. They make the balls vanish or jump between cups. Sometimes, a ball seems to pass through a solid cup bottom. The trick can end with a big surprise. A magician might find fruit or even small animals under the cups.

Different cultures have their own ways to perform. In Japan, the "Owan To Tama" uses bowls and silk balls. The movements look like a beautiful dance. In China, a routine called "The Immortal Sowing Beans" uses beans. It can end with a bowl that looks full of a million beans. Some performers even use clear glass cups. This lets the audience see the balls jump and vanish. Many experts say mastering this trick proves a person is a great magician.
