Most cuisines belong to a certain culture or a specific part of the world. People love cuisine because it brings them together through shared traditions. It can show where someone is from or what their history is like.

For example, a tropical area might have many fruits and vegetables. A very cold, polar area might rely more on meat and fish.

Many things decide what a cuisine looks and tastes like. The climate of a region determines which native foods can grow there. Climate also helps people decide how to save food for later. They might use smoking, curing, or pickling to keep food for the winter.

Trade between different countries also changes what people eat. Long ago, the spice trade brought items like cinnamon and ginger to new lands. Cinnamon and cassia reached the Middle East at least 4,000 years ago. These spices changed how people cooked their meals forever.

Religion is another big reason why cuisines are so different. Many people follow special food laws based on their beliefs. In India, Hinduism can lead to a lacto-vegetarian diet. This means people avoid meat and eggs but eat dairy.

Other religions like Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, and Buddhism also influence cooking. These rules can decide which foods are allowed or which are not. Because of these traditions, food becomes a very important part of daily life.

Cuisines are always changing and growing through new ideas. One way this happens is through culinary culture exchange. In the 16th century, European missionaries arrived in Japan. They brought Spanish and Portuguese ways to fry food.

This mixed with East Asian methods to create tempura. Tempura is a popular dish where seafood and vegetables are coated in batter and deep fried. Today, we also see fusion cuisine, which mixes many different traditions together.

Around the world, we can see many unique regional styles. In the Americas, corn is a staple food used in many ways.
