His music works by blending many different sounds together. He uses traditional Chinese instruments like the dizi, which is a flute. He also uses the suona, a loud horn, and the guzheng, a stringed instrument. He mixes these with modern rock, jazz, and even rap. In one famous song, he used drums and percussion like bongos and congas. This mix creates a sound that feels both old and new at the same time. This way of making music helped create a brand new style called alternative music.
