Crime prevention

society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Crime prevention is a way to stop crimes before they happen. Experts study many ways to keep people safe. Some ways focus on helping people. For example, good schools and strong families can help. When kids stay in school, they may be less likely to break rules. This is called primary prevention.

Other ways focus on the place where a crime might happen. This is called situational crime prevention. It tries to make crime harder or riskier. One way is to add more light to streets. This helps people see what is going on. Another way is to use cameras. In Philadelphia, cameras on roads helped stop many people from running red lights.

People also use tools to protect digital information. They use firewalls to block hackers. They also use passwords to keep data safe. This helps stop cybercrime.

Many groups work together to make towns safer. Schools, police, and job programs all help. When we use these steps, we can build safer places to live.
