Course credit

society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

A course credit is a way to measure school work. It helps schools know if a student is ready for a degree. It also helps students move from one school to another.

Different countries use different ways to count credits. In the United States, colleges use credit hours. These are often based on how much time you spend in class. For every hour in class, students usually study two more hours at home.

In Europe, many schools use a system called ECTS. One full year of study is usually 60 credits. In the United Kingdom, credits show how much learning takes place. One credit is worth ten hours of study.

In India, engineering students earn credits based on class time. They often need about 180 credits to finish their degree. In Brazil, schools count the hours of instruction instead.

Some students can earn credit by taking a test. This is called credit by examination. It lets students show what they know without taking a whole class. This can save time for students who already know the subject.
