It proves a student finished their classes. Some people call it a degree certificate. In the past, kings used them to give land to people.

Different places have different kinds of diplomas. In Canada, schools use credits to show progress. A student might need 60 credits for a two-year program. In India, students earn diplomas for jobs like nursing. These can come from government schools or private groups.

In some places, a diploma is a very high award. In Greece, an engineering diploma takes five years of study. In Germany, a diploma can be like a bachelor's degree. In Ireland, a Graduate Diploma is like a master's degree. Students finish a big project to earn it. In Spain, the king's name is on university diplomas. These are official papers protected by law.
