Most oil is made using a way called solvent extraction. This process helps pull the oil from the seed.

The finished oil is clear and light gold. It has a mild taste. This makes it great for many foods. People use it in salad dressing and mayonnaise. It is also good for frying snacks like potato chips. The oil stays fresh for a long time. This helps it last on store shelves.

In the past, people used this oil for lamps. It helped light homes when other oils were too dear. Later, a company called Procter & Gamble made a product called Crisco. This was a shortening that people used instead of animal fat.
