Conflict theory looks at how groups in society interact. It says people often clash over power and resources. Instead of always agreeing, groups may compete to lead.

Many thinkers studied these ideas. Karl Marx thought money was the main cause. He believed the rich and poor would clash. He wanted workers to unite to change the system.

Other thinkers had different views. Ludwig Gumplowicz said wars and groups shape our world. He thought winners of wars would rule over the losers. Lester Ward was more hopeful. He believed we could fix social rules to help people progress.

Max Weber focused on how people act. He thought individuals could change their own relationships. C. Wright Mills looked at a "power elite." He meant a small group of leaders with much power. He worried their choices could lead to big fights.

Gene Sharp studied how to fight without violence. He believed leaders only have power if people obey. If people stop obeying, the leaders lose power. This idea has helped many groups around the world.
