Parker was very good at making performers successful. He helped singers find new fans and bigger stages. He even worked on many movie deals for his stars. His work changed how music business worked in America. People remember him as a man who could make a star shine.

Parker used many skills to manage a music career. He first learned how to attract crowds while working at carnivals. He used these tricks to sell tickets for singers like Gene Austin. When he met Elvis, he helped him sign with RCA Victor. This deal led to the famous song "Heartbreak Hotel" in 1956. Parker also negotiated deals for products and movies. He was so successful that he earned over half of the money Elvis made.

His life began in a different country and a different name. He was born Andreas Cornelis van Kuijk in Breda, Netherlands, on June 26, 1909. He was one of eleven children in a large family. His father was a former military man who worked as a deliveryman. When Parker was sixteen, his father passed away. This was a hard time for the young man. He eventually moved to the United States to find his fortune.

Parker's journey to America was not a simple one. He first tried to move in 1926 but was sent back. He returned to the U.S. in May 1929 and stayed. He joined the Army using a new name to hide his past. He served in Hawaii and Florida before leaving the military. Later, he worked with many country singers like Eddy Arnold and Hank Snow. In 1948, he received the honorary rank of colonel from Louisiana. He used this title, "the Colonel," for the rest of his life.

Many people know Parker because of the massive success of Elvis Presley. Before Elvis, Parker had already worked with stars like Tommy Sands. He saw that Elvis had a very unique singing style. Parker helped Elvis move from Sun Records to the much larger RCA Victor. This move helped Elvis become one of the biggest entertainers ever. Even after Elvis died in 1977, Parker managed his estate. Parker lived in Las Vegas until he died in 1997.
