It has a dark color. Most colas taste like vanilla and cinnamon. They also use citrus oils from lemon or lime peels. These oils give the drink a bright flavor. Some makers add spices like nutmeg to make a unique taste.

The name comes from the kola nut. This nut gives the drink caffeine. Caffeine is a part that can make you feel alert. In 1886, John Pemberton made a famous recipe. It was inspired by a drink called coca wine. Today, many brands compete to make the best cola. Coca-Cola and Pepsi are the most famous rivals.

Different places use different things to make cola sweet. In the United States, many use corn syrup. In Europe, many use sugar. Some people make "craft cola" in Japan. They use local fruits and herbs. Some colas are even clear instead of dark. In Denmark, people made clear cola to avoid certain dyes. People should drink cola in small amounts. Too much sugar or caffeine can change how your body feels.
